Well, I suppose it's been a long time coming. I have re-entered the blog-o-sphere with more purpose for good than ever. This begin the first of many blogs, let me just say that it is indeed final's week. So, if one can easily conclude that I am under-rested and over-caffeinated. The normal equilibrium of sleep/caffeine is way off. And currently, I am finding new ways to avoid my work, like oh I don't know.. Starting a blog?? HA! good one huh?
Anyways, I haven't given this much of a purpose yet, but I would like to start with this cause that I am getting behind to stop pornography! Please, take the time to consider what is actually going on in the live of there PEOPLE, these WOMEN, who are constantly degraded on camera to earn money and gain a form of approval. Not meaning to get preachy on the first post, however this issue has become near and dear to me and whether or not you agree, or like it, it effects us all. Usually negatively.
Sasha Grey on Tyra^ This changed my life maybe it will yours? Who am I to say though.
can't you say that there is a clear gradient of unclear grey areas in pornography just as there is in so many issue in life and in doing so realize that it might not all be so bad. Of course there is going to be radical porn on the web that can't be controlled. Based on the ideoligy of the internet you can't ban the free flow of information but to stop all porn jus seems a lil nuts and unrealistic...
ReplyDeleteAs your blog is indeed titled "do or do not, there is no try", u can try to abolish porn, but I really dont see that happening. However if your intentions are to spread the idea that we should define our own sexual identies, then i fully agree. but that comes from each individual stand point of a strong minded person that should not influenced by the porn industry or the abolishionists alike
Ah yes, the first comment on this journey. How wonderful. "Do or Do not, there is no try" is a yoda quote! I suppose you can apply it to this, however not the intention, just a personal mantra for living passionately!
ReplyDeleteI realize that the reality in abolishing all porn is unrealistic. I only mean to bring awareness to the travesties being done here. I mean more to seek support for the women who have these traumas done to them, I am a victim of sexual trauma, and have personally rationalized the degradation of myself in the possibilities of moving into this realm of money making. However, not all porn is horrible I say this rationalizing because human nature allows us to "like" the images of sex, but the hardcore-- which is what is becoming more and more in demand is putting unseen pressure on a lot of women, particularly abused women who will consent to these types of things without any self respect.(myself included) Truly, hardcore porn messes with the psychology of most people who are not strong enough to define their own sexuality, but also with people who are addicted to the stuff. To say porn "isn't all that bad" is your own personal stance however, its hard to see what is really being done here. The bar is raising for sexually charged acts, younger children are exposed to high speed internet where porn is easily accessed and are having these images of women being completely degraded and associating it with sexual pleasure, now you tell me how this is "not all so bad"? Now, as of recent a big Any rand fan, I am not being a parasite, because my own moral/ethical make-up tells me that this is not right.
So basically, to clear it up. I hope to raise awareness. That is all, because I feel what most of these women feel, I watched Sasha Grey coldly deny that nothing had happened to her as I had many a time. All the while rationalizing an issue. Not all porn is bad, but when one mode doesn't suffice, you go on to the next one and so on. I usually stand in the middle of the road when it comes to issues not wanting to associate with one side always seeking an idealistic view harmonizing and compromising, but that isn't living passionately. That is not Doing, or Not doing! This is something I feel passionately about and what I can only hope for myself, is not to abolish porn and stop the billion dollar porn industry, but instead inspire in other people that maybe pornography isn't all it seems, and is all so GOOD.
I want to thank you for openly expressing your opinions. That is what this thing is for, no?
word liz, you're good shit (meant in a non-demeaning way)
ReplyDeleteThanks! (none taken)
ReplyDeleteBoard Dude, you are ignorant...me too (for the moment)because Im assuming you dont know what you are talking about. Literally, what you are commenting on is something you probably have very little knowledge about; after all, you comment lacks substance and anything objective about the pornography world.
ReplyDeletePlus, you made relavtivist claim about gray area. Imagine if all people needed to do when addressed with a controversial topic is say, isn't there some gray are? We'd all realize that's the universe is not entirely black and white! Unfortunately, that comment only makes a general statement about the diversity of a thing. Yes, pornography is diverse, not just black and white. Gray area claims are typical, though, of college students who do not want to strain their minds by doing difficult research into topics. It's an excellent srgument device when you're tired, on the go, or want to feel intelligent for a few minutes.
The anti-porn movement has much more to argue about than sexual identity. If you had researched it, you may find out about addiction, a very serious disease. Did you know that? The uninformed probably do not realize it's an addiction on par with drug and alcohol addiction, just very undermined. Porn addiction ruins relationships, families, and lowers people into prostitution. There's more!
The porn industry is an abusive industry and the abusive nature of the abusive films and magazines has a real affect on those who view it.
Consider an extreme exampl: Ted Bundy. He claim that he wasn't inherintly evil, that he was the product of a serious pornography addiction.
Another message to the uninformed, addiction is a progressive illness; an alcoholic starts off drinkin w friedns on the weekends and someday finds himself needing a gallon of vodka a day, the heroin addict startes off with percoset, and then someday finds himself or herself prostituting his or her body 5x a dy to pay for dope, a porn addict startes with a playboy and finds himself obsessed with anal rape party porn or acutally raping women.
Ultimately, sir, you have seriously undermined the topic at hand. Why, then, if you are so uninformed, did you even bother commenting?Trying to sound intelligent? That's okay! We are all guilty of it once in a while and fail most of the time.
I didnt think my first post went trhough so i typed another. enjoy
ReplyDeleteboarda,
Did you know that claims about "grey area" is a form of student relativism?
I'd look student relativism up.
Knowing it may help you catch a young, college person, which I am sure you are just by virtue of the language in your comment. You see, grey area claims are usually used by young college students who do not know how to argue yet. Plus, they probably dont research enough (which is true for you) and so they appeal to these meaningsless statements.
Here are some more you probaby use, "There is really nothing true or false-or nothing really good or bad-it's all relative. One person has an opinion or feeling, and another person has a different one. They, like your grey area crap, are chants or charms, meant to bring the invincible suit of armor into being.
You have been caught not thinking. It's okay, I get caught sometimes, myself.
It becomes more obvious because your comment undermines the subject, completely. You dont even address any real pornographic issues, like the busive nature of so much mainstream pornography. The Vivid stuff doesn't dominate anymore! Very abusive pornography is the money-making giant, the norm of today. Many studies have proven that abusive-natured porn harms the actors and actresses as well as its viewers. Many viewers become addicts and if you think addiction is a matter of meantal strength, you're an uninformed, ignoramus. I don't say that to offend, I say it to inform. Addiction is not a matter of opinion. It's a real disease. Maybe, you ought to google that too. Addicts aren't the only ones to suffer consequences. Pornography harms the youth of the entire world as well, damaging their emotional, sexual, and mental development, especially in areas of self-esteem and reltionships. You don't have to be against porn but you have undermined the topic and it appears that you dont know what you're talking about.
